Through this material we wish to bring one of Asia’s largest and most serious problems to light; child prostitution.

You will meet young people and children in Manila, the capital of the Philippines, through a film and teacher’s guide. Star of Hope has had a unique opportunity to get really close to these children and can therefore show you their every day lives just as they are.

The material gives a general knowledge about Asia and an understanding to how children can end up in prostitution, with Manila and the Philippines as examples. It shows the situation in today’s society and also throws light on child prostitution as a whole in Asia. Why is it such a big problem in Asia and what does the community do to prevent it?

The material shows why children end up in situations like this. How are Sweden and the north, as well as all other western societies connected to child prostitution in Manila? Sextourism to the Philippines? What do we do to work against and prevent this? What do we do to help these children, to stop them from being used? What do local organizations do?
We want to give young people and teachers awareness about the fact that this is an area with many problems that concern us as well. We hope to broaden young peoples’ knowledge and to make them feel solidarity. We want them to take responsibility for the world we all live in and the circumstances children and people around the world live in. In the long run we hope that when these kids grow up they will help to make this world a better place.

The short-term goal is for students and teachers to get a greater knowledge of Asian children and to feel that they can help to change these children’s reality. The teacher’s guide includes additional material about child prostitution and how that is a result of poverty and migration. This is distributed on a CD.

Schools will also have the opportunity to book lectures.
